Rise Up

 Behind the Music

This was the first song to come to me after I accepted that my gifts had to be used to glorify Him rather than to satisfy me and simply asked God to let me serve Him in the manner of His choosing.  It was also the first song we recorded for the CD and that was the first time I began to recognize God’s vision for the music overall.  Our church sometimes refers to itself corporately as the Jericho Road church, acting as a healing place for the spiritually injured.  I like to believe this song reflects the same intention and mission.

Lyrics

Can’t breathe,

Pressured by the weight of a worldly

Concern square on my chest.

Can’t rest

Without the welcome distraction of

The day’s demands.   There’s nothing left

For me

But to face that which wraps me in a

tattered blanket of cold distress.

The test

That has darkened the once open sky,

Now pressing down on me.

I fear I have no hope,

No end to my grief,

But then He lifts me up

Just as I hit my knees.

Get up

In the power of Jesus.

Rise up

To the joy of the Lord.

Shine on with the blessings of His glory,

For you’re bathing in the light of

His love.

Oh the power of Jesus,

Rise up

To the joy of the Lord!

Shine on with the blessings of His glory,

For you’re bathing in the light of

His love.

Easy to be

Overwhelmed by the trials that await us

all, that cause us to fall,

Stand tall.

The powers of this world take great

pleasure to be

able to see the hypocrisy

Of those who seek unto their own and

not “comfort in the Lord.”

He forged

A life of abundance, not to be taken

for granted, but lived abundantly.

You need only request

That He handle the rest.

His love will give you strength

To once again feel blessed.

Get up

In the power of Jesus!

Rise up

To the joy of the Lord!

Shine on with the blessings of His glory,

For you’re bathing in the light of

His love.
